What Do You Have to Do? (minimum requirements)
You must have leak detection, corrosion protection and spill/overfill protection
Leak Detection
New tanks
2 choices
  • Monthly monitoring*
  • Monthly inventory control and tank tightness testing every 5 yrs.
  •

  • (you can only use this choice for 10 yrs after installation)

  • Monthly inventory control and tank tightness testing
  •

  • (this choice can only be used till December 1998)
  • Monthly inventory control and tank tightness testing every 5 yrs.
  •

  • (you can only use this choice for 10 yrs after adding corrosion protection and spill/overfill prevention or until December 1998, whichever date is later)
New and existing pressure piping
(choice of one form each set)
  • Automatic flow restrictor
  • Automatic shutoff device -and- monthly monitoring
  •

  • (except automatic tank gauging)
  • Continuous alarm system
  • Annual line testing
New and existing suction piping
  • Monthly monitoring*
  •

  • (except automatic tank gauging)
  • Line testing every 3 years
  • No requirements (if the system has certain requirements)
Corrosion protection
New tanks

Installation

J&D's construction services are geared to the requirements of petroleum product vendors and stationary powered equipment owners. J&D has extensive experience with above ground and under ground storage, lubrication piping, generator piping and vehicle lift systems. J&D Mechanical Industries are the experts you need on your side for installation or retrofitting of:

a wide variety of fiberglass tanks

STI-P3 steel tanks

ACT-100 fiberglass coated tanks

Fireguard above ground tanks

oil/water separators

flexible fiberglass and steel piping

above and below ground piping

Retrofitting

Your existing tanks may require changes and/or improvements to comply with the EPA standards that went into effect in December of 1998. J&D has the information, the skill, and the resources to evaluate your needs, and develop a plan to bring you into compliance.

Decommissioning

It isn't possible anymore to simply walk away from any fuel storage tank that is not being used. There are strict guidelines and legal requirements for that process. Make an appointment with J&D Mechanical's experts to get the job done right, the first time.

Cathodic Protection

J&D is licensed by IFCI to specify and install impressed current cathodic corrosion protection systems.

Tank Testing

EPA guidelines require that all UST's employ leak detection, corrosion protection and spill/overfill prevention. Owners may choose to undergo either monthly monitoring or monthly inventory control plus periodic Tank Tightness Testing. Whatever your choice, J&D will schedule and oversee a full range of UST testing, including tightness, compliance, line and leak detection, and stageII testing. J&D is a prime contractor with over 20 years experience in the field and operates the most up-to-date equipment available. When required, internal tank inspections are performed with a EPA qualified proprietary device which minimizes disruptions and eliminates the need for costly and dangerous confined space entry jobs. With access to over $3.5 million in information systems technology, J&D can assure that your site will remain in compliance at the lowest possible cost.
